WINDOWS: Please be sure your windows are shut and locked, with your blinds pulled down and closed. You will be billed for costs associated with windows left open (for example, leaks due to frozen and burst pipes).

PACKAGES: Packages will be received at the Rental Office when we are open. Delivery drivers may leave packages at buildings, but we are not able to control what the delivery companies do. If you are here while we are closed and see a notification that a package has been delivered, we recommend that you go look at your building entrance for it right away!  Due to our limited office hours, please do not order more items until you return to Ithaca. If you are here over break, we will send out less frequent notifications, typically weekly, of any packages that have arrived.

MAIL: Your regular mail should be delivered to your mailboxes as usual by the US Postal Service. Be sure to empty your mailbox before you leave so there is room for your accumulated mail over break.

APARTMENT INSPECTIONS: The Maintenance Department will perform routine inspections in every apartment over break, to make sure that smoke detectors are functioning properly, as well as checking faucets for drips, and general housekeeping in apartments. Every apartment will be entered over break. You may see a work order created from these inspections if necessary,

HEAT: The heat will remain on, set at 68 degrees, throughout break. Be sure not to block your heaters with bedding or furniture, and always notify the maintenance department directly with any heating issues: 607-277-0179.

GENERAL MAINTENANCE: The maintenance staff will be working over the break. You can call or email your maintenance requests as usual. 607-277-0179, or maintenance@ithacarenting.com

LIGHTS, COMPUTERS ETC: Please be sure all lights are off, and computers are turned off and unplugged if you wish. Report any drippy faucets before you leave, and make sure to turn off or unplug small appliances- but leave the refrigerator ON!

TRASH/RECYCLING: Be sure to take your trash & recycling out before you leave so your apartment doesn’t become smelly or attract bugs.

LOCK YOUR DOORS! Don’t forget to lock your bedroom and apartment doors.

KEYS: When you return to Ithaca, be sure to have your keys handy. Don’t leave them at home! When flying, do not put them into your checked luggage. The replacement fee for lost keys is $100-150.

KEY RECOMMENDATION: Add an Airtag, Tile, or Samsung Smart Tag to your key ring. This will help prevent lost key charges!

SUBTENANTS: If you will be subletting your room for the spring semester, make sure you have returned a completed Sublet Request form. We need to know that you will be gone and who will be in your room!

MOVING OUT? If you are moving out, please be sure to change your address at www.usps.com, and make sure you have left your keys in the appropriate location: either with the spring tenant or at the rental office. If you are leaving keys at the rental office when we are closed, be sure to use an envelope with your name and apartment number and put them through our front door drop slot.

PARKING TENANTS: If you leave your car here over break, be sure you are in your own parking spot and not someone else’s! Be sure you have a snow brush and folding show shovel available and ready for your return to Ithaca. Remember to clear all the snow off your vehicle, including your headlights, before you drive. If it is snowing, you should wait until the snow stops and the roads have been cleared before you drive if possible. Snowy roads can be very slippery and dangerous.

NEED APARTMENT HELP? Please let us know! We can help with requests like checking make sure your doors are locked, watering plants, and things like that. Just give us a call, and remember that we will have more limited office hours and additional closed days over winter break.

Have a great break and Happy New Year!
